Food security—the availabilty of sufficient, healthful food to sustain a family—is always a critical issue among some of our nearest neighbors here. And in times like these, this need is even greater.

Our three local Rotary clubs—Boulder Valley, Flatirons and Boulder Rotary—are coordinating a “Food Drive: Help Fight Hunger as We Fight COVID -19” event this Saturday, April 18, from noon to 1:30 p.m. in the Boulder Community Health parking lot (at the corner of 48th and Arapahoe in Boulder) in support of the Sister Carmen food bank.

Masked and gloved participants are asked to bring canned goods (tuna chicken, beans, peanut butter and vegetables) to help out at-risk families.

Much of what’s happening right now could make us feel a bit helpless against an invisible foe. The truth is, each of us can perform wonderful acts of kindness right now to help get us through this together. Sometimes, all it takes is canned goods and a caring heart.

Will you help us make a difference in the lives of our neighbors? On behalf of the Daily Camera, our Rotary Clubs, Sister Carmen and hundreds of families, thank you for your help.

We think our readers are truly special. You prove it every day.
