Black Friday shoppers are notoriously fond of deals, and not just for gift giving. Nearly six in 10 holiday shoppers say they plan to take advantage of retailers’ sales and discounts to make additional non-gift purchases for themselves and their families. Black Friday is the busiest shopping day of the year. According to the National Retail Federation, nearly 80 million dedicated consumers strapped on their wallets for the big day last year. A whopping 212 million visited stores and websites during Black Friday weekend. The numbers are projected to be even greater this year.

All told, the holiday season can represent 19 to 40 percent of annual sales for retailers. A projected $465.6 billion of holiday spending is on the line this year. It’s go time.

If you sell toys, gifts, books, or electronics, putting extra oomph in your Black Friday promotions is a no-brainer. But  those in the hospitality, furnishing/decor and home improvement industries might consider a targeted campaign for holiday hosts.
