After 17 years of film, fun and community building, Boulder Outdoor Cinema (BOC) needs our help to stay vital for the next 17 years and beyond. The nonprofit organization is hosting a Kickstarter program aimed at raising $20,000 to replace its well loved but (very) well worn screen.

If BOC’s goal is reached, it will invest in an inflatable screen. The new screen will give its films the high quality backing they deserve while being considerably more resilient to the elements. An inflatable screen will also give BOC flexibility – to change locations if need be and to offer its services to more of the community.

BOC has been a local summer tradition since 1995, with hundreds of patrons attending screenings every Saturday night during the eight-week season. If you haven’t had the pleasure of attending, here’s how it goes: People bring blankets and lawn chairs to the lot behind the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art and prepare to be entertained. Lively pre-show activities – short films, local musicians, trivia contests, food – give way to the main event – watching a classic film on an enormous outdoor screen.

It’s a straight-up blast. And it’s up to us to ensure BOC has a future.
