For 60 years, Boulder’s McGuckin Hardware has defied naysayers, fended off online mega-retailers, and kept true to the community values held by founder Llewellyn Commodore “Bill” McGuckin, Dave and Dee McGuckin Hight, and now, their sons and grandchildren.
That adds up to a lot of “stories,” and now these tales have been turned into a fascinating book!
“Behind the Green Vest” delves into the McGuckin story, from 18th-century immigrant builders, farmers and merchants, to the store’s proud role in putting satellites in high-earth orbit. It tells the story of how McGuckin Hardware barely survived its first decade, but emerged triumphant. And it’s a love story, of sorts, between a business and a community.
You are invited to a special book signing at McGuckin Hardware on Saturday, Sept. 12 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Come meet Dave and Dee Hight and author Clay Evans, and get your copy signed to make it a true keepsake!
