Community Food Share needs your help. Its 27th annual Let’s Bag Hunger food drive is in full swing, but the collection bins aren’t as full as they have been in years past.
Hunger in our community is a real problem. The latest USDA Household Food Security Survey estimates that 13 percent of Boulder and Broomfield county residents are food insecure. In other words, 1 of 8 people in our community don’t have access to sufficient, safe, nutritious food to maintain a healthy and active life.
Community Food Share’s mission is to ensure that no one in Boulder and Broomfield counties goes hungry. The goal of the Let’s Bag Hunger campaign is to collect 135,000 pounds of food (1 meal = 1 pound of food) and/or the equivalent in monetary contributions ($1 =4 meals). Can you help make a difference?
All you have to do is fill a bag with store-bought, non- perishable food and bring it to one of the many drop-off locations in our community. The items most urgently needed are canned meat, tuna, fruit, juice, meals and chili; pasta and pasta sauce; dry cereal; refried beans, and peanut butter. If you can’t get to the store, contribute financially online at communityfoodshare.org.
Food and dollars donated to this drive will help Community Food Share restock its shelves and get food where it is needed most. Please do your part to bag hunger, and soon. The food drive ends this Wednesday.
