Things are looking up for our local economy.  The Camera recently reported that most Boulder-area municipalities and townships recorded gains in retail sales tax collections last year, and the gains appear to be holding for 2011.

“Pearl Street Mall is up 12.5 percent, which is really strong,” said Sean Maher, director of Downtown Boulder Inc. (DBI), a nonprofit organization that works to promote the downtown area.

We like to think we’ve played a small part in that success. Your Daily Camera is pleased to be a longtime partner of DBI and supporter of its programs. Maher told the Camera he’s heard from some retailers that have had their “best April ever,” or that graduation weekend brought the “best three days” in 30 years. “These are high-end stores, and discretionary items,” he said. “It’s not like they’re selling toothpaste and toilet paper.”

The Colorado Daily helped make that a reality for advertisers, distributing a keepsake commemorative edition at graduation. The Daily, free and everywhere, reaches tourists during graduation weekend and throughout the year. It is distributed at targeted tourist haunts as well as around town by our enthusiastic street team.
