Children living in poverty face an achievement gap, and the pandemic has only intensified the divide. Systemic barriers leave these children with fewer resources and less support.

But the YMCA works to remove those barriers and uplift families, providing affordable access to preschool, after-school care, school day off camps and summer camp.

“We provide a safe environment with activities that some of our children may not otherwise experience: STEM projects, swimming, art and crafts. They learn about inclusion, they get homework help, develop positive friendships, find mentors and eat healthy snacks,” says Stacie Clements, who oversees the Longmont Y after-school and summer camp programs.

The Y needs our support to bridge the achievement gap and ensure equitable access to Y programs for children right here in our community.
