Today’s students have access to more information than any generation before them—and the endless amount of news, images, videos and audio clips just keeps growing.

With multiple sites, social media platforms and online resources vying for their attention, it’s also very important that they can sort out the credible, reality-based information from less trustworthy content.
Newspapers in Education (NIE) is an international program that partners with local newspapers to foster student literacy and awareness. Locally, this includes the Denver Post, Boulder Daily Camera, Longmont Times-Call, Loveland Reporter-Herald and the Greeley Tribune.

In a recent article for Denver 7 News, writer Dana Plewka reported on how the television station and its parent company Scripps are working with the National News Literacy Project to support this important agenda.

Plewka estimates that more than 230,000 Colorado students are provided free online access to local newspapers, which report and reflect the cross-section of opinion and values that their communities share.

One of the easiest ways to access this content is through the Daily Camera’s NIE app, available for iOS and Android from their respective app stores.
